about

The chord progression of this song is based on a traditional Greek scale that's pretty common in the music out there. It loops around the seven chords in a cyclical way through the first two verses, guitar solo, and last verse. I thought that concept was interesting in the context of such an ancient place whose people walked that earth millennia ago, and then there we were with cellphones and digital cameras.

This is a pretty dramatic departure from the version released last year. The feel went from moody Frank Ocean to jammy trio, though. Sometimes you just gotta jam.

lyrics

Whisper little secrets,
Through the olive branches.
Hide between the rocks,
Where the water crashes.
Burn the crimson sky,
As the day passes.
Like the mystery was never lost.

Sneak out of the garden,
In your father's absence.
Lips all crimson red,
From a pomegranate.
Hades chased us,
Then he vanished,
To keep the promise of a higher love.

Feel it thrash against the hull as we roll past.
And light the basin the valley when the ancient sun collapses.
It longs to be redeemed from just beyond our reach.

Hiding in the shadow of the bluff.
Hiding in the center of the sun.
Hiding in the satchel at my back.
Hiding in a hopeful little box.
